May is Asian & South Asian Heritage Month / Jewish Heritage Month
May is Asian, South Asian and Jewish Heritage month at RBPS and across the OCDSB. Although we encourage learning about different heritages all year, this is an opportunity to put a special focus on learning about the rich culture, heritage and many contributions of Asian Canadians and Jewish Canadians, who throughout history have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous country we know today.
RBPS School Council News
School Council Meeting:
All parents are invited to attend the RBPS School Council meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 pm in the school library. This meeting will use a hybrid (in-person and virtual) format; any parent who would like to attend virtually is invited to join using this link. As you know, Mr Griesbach is moving on at the end of this school year, the incoming Principal Melissa Collins will be joining us at the meeting. We hope to see you there.

Grade 6 Cupcake Sale: Wednesday, May 14
Our Grade 6 students are planning to have a Cupcake Sale on Wednesday, May 14th to raise funds for their end of the year field trip! All proceeds from the sale will go towards this trip as this will bring the overall costs down significantly. If you would like to send in a donation of cupcakes to help our cause, we would appreciate it! They can be homemade or bought from the store. We just ask that they are nut-free.
We ask that the cupcakes be brought to the school the morning of Wednesday, May 14th. We will collect them from you in the school entrance from 8-8:30am. Please label all containers and lids with your student’s name so that we may be able to return these containers to you.
All cupcakes will be sold in 2nd recess for $1 each.
Thank you for supporting the Grade 6 students!
Upcoming Talent Show at RBPS
Thank you to all the students who tried out for the talent show this week, and for all the staff members on the talent show committee who hosted the auditions every day, and now have the very difficult task of choosing the performers: students will find out this week who will be participating in the talent show.
The RBPS Talent Show will be on Friday, May 16 at 12:00 PM. All parents are invited to attend.

Information from OSTA (For parents of children on yellow school bus)
Ottawa Student Transportation (OSTA) has implemented an opt-out process to enhance bus routing and transportation planning for the 2025-2026 school year.
If your child(ren) will not require school bus transportation next school year, please complete the electronic opt-out form to inform OSTA that a seat is not needed. This will help optimize services and minimize disruptions. Requests for reinstated service can be made anytime through OSTA’s Transportation Issues Form, and is subject to availability and eligibility.
The opt-out form is now available on OSTA’s website. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2025.
RBPS Activities (In every Banner, we highlight a different activity at RBPS.)
Activity Name: Field Trips to Museum of Nature
What is it?: Over the past week, and in the weeks ahead, a number of classes have attended field trips at the Museum of Nature, the Museum of Science and Technology, and other venues For all of these trips, we would like to offer a special thank-you to the RBPS School Council for their generous support. Thanks to their fundraising efforts, and paying for the cost of the buses, we are able to offer these trips for only $10 per student, instead of the $15-$20 per student they would otherwise cost.
