Our School
Robert Bateman PS is located in the Hunt Club Park community. Opened in 1991, it is named after the Canadian artist, Robert Bateman, who continues to take an active interest in the life of the school.
Robert Bateman PS has approximately 260 students. We utilize a balanced day schedule, with three teaching blocks of 120 minutes, 120 minutes and finishing with 60 minutes. All of our Kindergarten students receive half of their instruction in English, and half in French. When students reach Grade 1, they have the choice of Regular English or Early French Immersion. Our school is also home to a Primary Special Needs (PSN) class.
Our Students
Our enrollment as of 2024/2025 is 260 students, enrolled in both the Regular English and Early French Immersion. When students graduate from Robert Bateman PS, they usually attend Roberta Bondar PS for programs in Grade 7 and 8, in both Early French Immersion and English.
Our Staff
Our staff is made up of 30 teachers, Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs), Educational Assistants (EAs), office support staff, custodians, lunch monitors, Principal and Vice-Principal, library technician, and other support staff. All are dedicated to building success for our students.
Our Community
The school serves an area bounded by Conroy, Hawthorne, and Hunt Club Roads and the railway. Spacious parks and pathways were incorporated into the design of the neighbourhood, providing ample space for walking, biking, playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, wading pools, and outdoor rinks. After school programs are offered by the Greenboro Community Centre.
Robert Bateman PS welcomes parent and community volunteers to work in partnership with staff in order to provide positive, caring and safe educational experiences for all of our students.
The Robert Bateman PS School Council works alongside the staff and administration in supporting our school community. Monthly hybrid (in-person and online) meetings are held to discuss items of interest, plan program supports, and work in partnership with the school staff to ensure their children’s experiences are as rich as possible. Parents also fundraise extensively to provide resources and programs, such as field trips and special presentations, to enhance the delivery of the curriculum.
Mission Statement
Robert Bateman PS is a school where there is care and respect for oneself, for others, and for the environment. We come to Robert Bateman PS to love learning, strive for excellence and prepare for the future.
Ici nous respectons et prenons soin de tout un chacun ainsi que de notre environnement. Nous fréquentons cette école pour l’amour du savoir, pour accéder à l’excellence et pour préparer notre avenir.
Special Education and ESL Programs
Our Learning Support Teacher (LST) provides educational support for students, as well as diagnostic assessments and support in curriculum planning. Our 3.5 Educational Assistants are assigned to the school based on medical and safety needs.
At Robert Bateman we use a tiered approach for supporting students. Tier 1 supports are put into place in the classroom, and may be of benefit to all students, such as instructional, environmental, or assessment accommodations. Tier 2 supports may be put into place following consultation between the classroom teacher, school support team, and parents, and may lead to additional, targeted support. Tier 3 supports involve a more significant level of modification, and would be considered only after thoroughly exploring Tier 2 supports.
Additional identified support is provided by our Learning Resource teacher and/or English Language Learning support teachers. These teachers work in cooperation with the classroom teacher to address specific student needs using either an inclusive or withdrawal support model.
