June is National Indigenous History Month / Pride Month

At RBPS, we take opportunities throughout the year to teach and celebrate the history, role models, leaders, accomplishments, and culture of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. During National Indigenous History Month, we will engage in school-wide and class specific learning opportunities related to Indigenous history, identity, and the path towards reconciliation.

In addition, June is also Pride Month, which is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, learn about the achievements and histories of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. This month, we focus on curriculum expectations linked to equity, human rights, and overcoming discrimination. OCDSB schools fly the Pride flag in June to reaffirm that everyone is welcome here.

Lates and Absences

Thank you to all the parents who have made an effort to ensure your children arrive every day before 8:30. This is particularly important as we head into EQAO assessment week, which begins at 8:30 every day. For all classes, instruction for the key subjects of Literacy and Math starts right at 8:30 AM every day. Your cooperation in this is appreciated!

School-Wide Photo: May 27

On Tuesday, May 27, we will be taking a ‘Class of 2025’ Grade 6 group photo, in addition to a whole-school photo: these photos will be available for purchase when completed. We hope that all students will be able to attend on this date. Forms to order the grade 6 group photo will be sent home with the grade 6 students. The school-wide photo is available for purchase through this link: Robert Bateman whole school photo

Upcoming Events in June: Permission forms required

There are a number of special events coming in June.

On Monday, June 2, Junior students will be participating in Ultimate Frisbee activities, led by The Ottawa-Carleton Ultimate Association. On Tuesday, June 3, all students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will be participating in Orienteering activities, run by Orienteering Ottawa. Orienteering for Kindergarten and Primary students will take place on the field, and Junior Orienteering will be in Elizabeth Manley Park. For that reason, all parents of Junior students will need to complete an online permission form in order to participate in orienteering, and parent volunteers will be required. This form will also give permission for Junior students to visit Elizabeth Manley Park through the month of June, in order to participate in other end-of-year outdoor activities. Could you please complete this form by the end of this week, or ask for a paper form if you are unable to access the online version. Thank you!

Upcoming Grade 6 Fundraising Events:

Over the next few weeks, the Grade 6 students will be engaged in some fundraising activities for their upcoming leaving ceremony, end of year field trip, and legacy project.

  • Friday, May 30 will be the final Popcorn sale of the year: $3 per bag;
  • On Thursday, June 5  and Friday, June 13 there will be Freezie sale at the end of the day. $1 per jumbo freezie.

Thank you for supporting the Grade 6 students!
