Robert Bateman School Climate and Inclusion Committee

One of our most important goals is to build a school community that is caring, supportive, and inclusive for all students. In order to support our ongoing work towards meeting this goal, we will be continuing the work of our School Climate and Inclusion Committee. This committee will include the Principal (Mr. G.)  and a mixture of teachers, EAs. ECEs, and parents. In this committee, we listen to all the voices that make up our RBPS community, talk about how we are doing in building a more inclusive and equitable community, and set goals moving forward.

Our first meeting will be tomorrow on Tuesday October 24 at 3:15 PM, with subsequent meetings about every two months after that, for a total of between 3 - 4 meetings for the year. If you are interested in being part of this committee, please respond to this email, or reach out to Mr. G. by telephone at 613-737-3169.

School Council Fundraising Survey

Every year the School Council raises money through fundraising efforts like PIzza Days, Movie Nights, and other activities.

In an effort to hear the community's thoughts, the School Council is looking for feedback from Parents, Teachers, and Students on where they would like to see this year's fundraising dollars spent.

EQAO Results

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has released board and school level results for provincial assessments conducted during the 2022-2023 school year. Over the next few weeks, we will be sending home individual results for students who were in Grade 3 or 6 at RBPS last year. The school-level results will make up part of the data we will use as a staff as we prepare our plans for school improvement for 2023/2024.

Halloween at RBPS (Tuesday, October 31)

On Tuesday, October 31, students in Kindergarten - Grade 6 are invited to wear costumes, dress in orange-and-black, or dress as they normally would. Most classes will continue with their regular routines in the morning, with some special events in the afternoon (including a school-wide pumpkin carving contest): you may receive additional information from your child(ren)’s classroom teacher(s) in the weeks ahead.

Please note that, props and other items that might accompany a costume are discouraged, and as always, prop weapons are prohibited at school.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Staff Profiles  (In every Banner, we profile a different staff member…)  AF

Staff Name: Ms Alicia Finnigan

Role:  Blue Kindergarten Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Time at Robert Bateman: 2 Months

Background: I am brand new to Ottawa! I was born on Cape Breton Island but grew up in a small military town in New Brunswick. I came to Ontario after graduating university, starting my ECE journey in Petawawa. I am so excited to be in Ottawa and can’t wait to explore this beautiful city!

Interesting Fact: I had the opportunity to take part in an exchange program during university to Ireland where I spent time in a Gaeltacht (an Irish speaking district) learning the Irish language! I would love to share “cupla focal” (a few words - or more :)) with anyone who is interested!
