Welcome to New Staff at RBPS

We would like to welcome Ms Suad Hussein and Ms Penelope Sinclair who joined the RBPS team this week as Educational Assistants (EAs). Ms Suad will work primarily with our Primary and Junior students, and Ms Penelope will work primarily with our Kindergarten students, but they will also work with other students across the school.

Remembrance Day at RBPS

Thank you to the staff and students who organized and participated in this meaningful ceremony to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve. It was particularly gratifying that so many parents were able to attend this ceremony: we look forward to welcoming parents back for many gatherings and events in the future.

Opening Grade Structure, Program Offering, and Attendance Boundary for the New Findlay Creek Elementary School

Note: If you live in the Findlay Creek community, this information is of particular importance, because it concerns where your child(ren) will go to school next year.

Over the past few months a locally-formed working group has met to discuss potential  accommodation proposals related to the future opening of the New Findlay Creek Elementary School – scheduled to open in September 2024.

A Public Consultation Meeting will be held to seek feedback on the proposed opening grade structure, program offering, and attendance boundary. Input received at the public consultation meeting will assist staff in preparing recommendations to the Board. Some of the specific areas we will be seeking feedback on include:

  • The proposed opening grade structure, program offering, and attendance boundary for the New Findlay Creek Elementary School;
  • The associated proposed revision to the attendance boundary area for Vimy Ridge Public School;
  • The redirection of current students temporarily directed to Robert Bateman Public School and Roberta Bondar Public School.

To find out more and provide feedback, please attend this meeting to be held on:

  • Wednesday, November 29th 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Vimy Ridge Public School - Gymnasium
  • 4180 Kelly Farm Drive, Gloucester

At the meeting there will be a brief presentation by Board staff, followed by a question &  comment session. Staff will be available to answer questions on an individual basis following the meeting. An information package providing details of the review and the proposals will be available at the meeting.

Additional information about the review can be found here.

Parent / Teacher Interviews: November 23 - 24

Either Friday or earlier today, all parents should have received an email invitation to sign up for a parent-teacher interview on either Thursday, November 23 between 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, or on Friday, November 24 between 8:30  AM - 10:30 AM. This is an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) to discuss the Initial Observations Report / Progress Report, ask any questions you may have, and discuss how you can work together to support your child(ren) moving forward. Please note that although this time is specifically dedicated for parents and teachers to meet, parents are welcome to reach out to their child(ren)’s teachers at any time throughout the year to discuss their child(ren)’s progress.

RBPS Scholastic Book Fair: November 21 - 24

Book Fair is Back!  Students will be able to shop in-person for new books and other fun items! All classes will have a chance to visit the book fair during school hours.

Thank you for your support!

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week at RBPS

During the week of November 27 - December 3, we will be taking time at RBPS to talk about what bullying is, how to identify it, respond to it, and prevent it. These conversations will be targeted to the different age levels from Kindergarten to Grade 6, but at every grade the focus will be on how we work together to build a safe and caring school community. (You may have received an email from the OCDSB identifying Nov 19-25 as Bullying Awareness Week, but given the many other events taking place this week, we have chosen to shift our Bullying Awareness Week to next week, so we can give it the attention it deserves.)
