Bateman Bobcat Banner
Monday, September 13, 2021

Welcome to the first Bateman Bobcat Banner of 2121/2022. Every 2 weeks (usually on Sunday evening), we will share the Bobcat Banner via email and post a copy to the school website. The Bobcat Banner will contain news about upcoming events at Robert Batemen, showcase special events and activities, and present other information we hope will be of interest to the Robert Bateman Community.

Welcome Back!

Thank you for helping to make our first week back to school run so smoothly. Students arrived with masks and recommended school supplies, and parents followed all our pick-up and drop-off procedures. (If you would like to review these procedures and supplies list, that information is available here.) We also thank you in advance for continuing to perform the daily COVID-19 screening with each of your child(ren), and sending the screening confirmation checklist with your child(ren). If you did not receive this checklist last week, your child will be given a copy on Monday.

Daily Screening

Every morning, all families and staff are asked to conduct a COVID-19 screening to determine if your child should attend school that day. The screening tool is available in multiple languages: English, French, Swahili, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Somali. Please send your child(ren) with the screening verification checklist everyday.

School Council

Please join us for the Annual General Meeting and first School Council meeting of the 2021-2022 school year. Like all council meetings last year, this meeting will be held virtually on Thursday September 23rd, 2021 starting at 6:30 pm. Parents and Guardians are invited to attend, vote, and welcome to run for positions on the School Council.

This is your chance to have your voice heard.

IMPORTANT: In order to be added to our email distribution list to receive the Google Meets invite link, please email your rsvp to

COVID-19 Vaccinations

The City of Ottawa and OPH are working to  make it easier for residents who have yet to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone who has not yet received a first dose can now walk-in to any City-run community clinic between 10 am and 7 pm or pop-up clinic (while supplies last).  No appointment needed.  The list of locations will be updated daily on and on the City’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

OPH also encourages you to notify Ottawa Public Health if you or members of your family received one or more doses of a COVID-19 vaccine outside of the Province of Ontario (e.g., Quebec or outside of Canada). You can do so by completing this form.

Parents who would like direct, one-on-one support may call the COVID-19 phone line at 613 580-6744 or visit this website:

Student Accident Insurance

Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans. As a parent/guardian, you become responsible for these expenses.

Student accident insurance is available for purchase, on a voluntary basis, through Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada. Parents may apply online at or call 1-800-463-5437.

The OCDSB encourages all parents/guardians to consider purchasing this insurance.  The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. This coverage is for the entire calendar year and also applies to accidents that occur outside of school hours.  If you have any questions, please call Binks Insurance Brokers directly at 613-226-1350.
