Islamic Heritage Month at RBPS
Throughout October, we have taken time to learn about Islamic Heritage in Canada, both on a school-wide basis and in individual classrooms. Through bulletin-board displays, school-wide announcements, and age-appropriate classroom activities, students are gaining a deeper understanding of Islamic identity, and the many contributions made by Muslum Canadians. In addition, in the next 2 weeks (date TBD) we will be welcoming Ms. Faten Trabelsi to our Grade 3/4 and up classes to lead class workshops on “Geometry and Islamic Art”. Ms Trabelsi is an artist whose workshops link the art and beauty of mathematics through the motifs of Islamic art. Students will learn about the history and characteristics of this art form, then get creative using mathematical concepts to draw their own geometric patterns.
Junior Boys and Girls Soccer
Later this week, the Junior Boys and Girls Soccer Teams will compete in the Southeast Regional Soccer tournaments. The team members have been practicing daily under the direction of their coaches; Mme Boudreau, Mme Irus, and Ms Horning. Good luck to our Bobcats as they get ready to represent RBPS this week!
Voluntary $20 RBPS Student Fee
Robert Bateman PS invites parents/caregivers to contribute a voluntary student fee of $20. These fees are used to support additional activities to enrich the student programs, such as guest speakers and special presentations, and to subsidize field trips. Our request is for a voluntary donation of $20 per student (up to a family maximum of $50). This fee can be sent electronically using Schoolcashonline, or sent as cash / check with your child(ren). Thank you in advance for considering this request.
Halloween at RBPS (Tuesday, October 31)

Please note that, props and other items that might accompany a costume are discouraged, and prop weapons are prohibited at school.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
Fall Activity Day (Friday, November 1)
On Friday, November 1, RBPS students from Kindergarten - Grade 6 will participate in a school-wide ‘Fall Activity Day’ Students in K-5 will rotate through a variety of activities and stations, with the students in Grade 6 taking a leadership role in running these activities. These activity days take place a few times over the year, and are a fun opportunity to build school spirit, and for our Grade 6 students to grow their leadership skills.

Kindergarten - Grade 6 Media Permission Forms
We would like to tell the community about the many positive things taking place in our school. We also want to strike the right balance between getting our message out and respecting the wishes of parents/guardians who do not want their children photographed or videotaped or their child’s name, work or photo displayed on the District’s or school’s websites. Therefore, could you please complete this form to let us know your preferences regarding sharing information?
Outside Games / Toys at School
We are fortunate to have a variety of sports equipment, sand toys, sidewalk chalk, and other items available for students to play with at recess. Bringing sports equipment and toys from home (soccer balls, basketballs, etc) is not recommended, because of the potential for items to get lost or damaged.
Speaking of sand toys, if you have gently used sand toys (shovels, pails, etc.) to donate to the school, please drop them off at the front office. Thank you!
RBPS Activities (In every Banner, we highlight a different activity at RBPS.)
Activity Name: Roots of Empathy
What is it?: The Grade 2/3 students in Mme Irus’s class are currently welcoming Ms Amy and her baby daughter Quinn into their class every 3 weeks through the Roots of Empathy program. Roots of Empathy is an award-winning program for elementary school children that independent research shows increases empathy, reduces aggression and bullying, and increases caring, kindness and inclusiveness. The Program is centred around the loving relationship between a parent and baby, with a Roots of Empathy Instructor guiding a discussion with children, encouraging them to read emotional cues and take a baby's perspective. The baby is the "Tiny Teacher". The children learn to identify and name the baby’s feelings, reflect on and understand their own feelings, then bridge to understand the feelings of others. The development of emotional literacy helps children understand how their behaviour or words can hurt others, and enables children to make friends and build positive relationships.
