RBPS Art Showcase Event

Wednesday, May 3 from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM, is the grand opening of the 2nd Floor Art installation, in addition to the 2023 Grade 6 Legacy project. Also, every class will have art on display outside their classrooms as part of this showcase.

The structure of the event will be as follows:

  • 2:30 - 2:50: Parents / Caregivers who arrive at this time may proceed directly into the school, where greeters will direct to their child’s class. (Kindergarten parents may go directly to the Kindergarten yard). Parents may then sign their child out directly from their class (or Kinder yard), and their child will lead them on a tour of the various art showcases;
  • 2:50 - 3:00: Please do not enter the school at this time: teachers will be organizing their classes for dismissal, and will bring them to the front;
  • 3:00 - 3:05: Teachers will dismiss their classes in the usual way, and parents are welcome to collect this child(ren) and re-enter the school for the art showcase (please note, after 3:00 PM, student supervision is parent / guardian responsibility);
  • 3:00 - 4:00: Parents / guardians are welcome to return to the school with their child(ren) for the Art Showcase (student supervision at this time is parent / guardian responsibility)

Parking will be limited for this event, so please consider walking to school if you are able to do so, or park a bit further away and walk: we hope that many families will be able to join us for this event.

Mental Health Week

May 1 - 8 is  Mental Health Week. The OCDSB’s Mental Health Team has prepared a few daily activities, resources, tip sheets, and more. During the week, we will be taking time to talk about the importance of taking care of ourselves, and each other, at an age-appropriate level.

Junior Soccer at RBPS: Request for Cleats

Spring has arrived, and the Junior (Grades 4 - 6) Boys and Girls Soccer Team tryouts will soon begin. Soccer is very popular at RBPS, and we expect that many students will participate. The Junior Soccer coaches would like to request that families with gently used soccer cleats for children aged 8 - 12 consider donating them to the RBPS collection. These cleats will go to students who would like to play, and do not have access to cleats. Thank you in advance for your support.

RBPS School Council: Thursday, May 11

All parents are invited to attend the RBPS School Council meeting on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 6:30 pm in the school library. This meeting will use a hybrid (in-person and virtual) format; any parents who would like to attend virtually are invited to join using this GoogleMeet link. An agenda will be shared with parents in the next few days.

We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU to the Robert Bateman School Council for their generous donation of $1000 to the Robert Bateman Library. Ms Liz is already ordering a selection new of books that reflect the interests of Robert Bateman students,such as books on soccer and basketball, and biographies of their favourite athletes such as Simone Biles, Serena Williams, Kobe Bryant, and Lebron James, in addition to books on technology, coding, and many, many other subjects.

Luv2Groove Dance Workshop

During the week of May 8 - 12, instructors from Luv2Groove will be delivering workshops to all RBPS classes from Kindergarten - Grade 6. Luv2Groove instructors deliver programs that meet the different Grade expectations of the Ontario Dance and Physical Education Curriculum in a fun and engaging way, and are accessible to all students, whatever their past dance experience. We should also note that students will not be dancing with partners.  You can learn more about Luv2Groove’s school program here.

GetREAL 2SLGBTQ+ Inclusivity Workshop

On Wednesday May 19, students in Grade 4 - 6 will take part in an interactive inclusivity workshop, led by presenters from GetREAL. GetREAL is a Canadian non-profit organization focused on combating 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination and bullying, and has been a partner with the OCDSB for a number of years. During this workshop, presenters will facilitate an interactive workshop with students that builds on the power of personal stories to spread kindness, celebrate uniqueness, and support one another. This workshop also introduces 2SLGBTQ+ identities in an age appropriate way, and shows students they can be an ally at any age and make a difference. This workshop supports the goals of the OCDSB Human Rights Roadmap, and our ongoing work at Robert Bateman PS to build a discrimination-free school community where all students, staff, and families are valued and supported.
