Welcome Back!

Welcome Back and Happy New Year! We hope that all our RBPS families had a relaxing and enjoyable break.

As you have heard through the news and OCDSB email updates, the first day of school for 2022 has shifted from Monday, January 3 to Wednesday, January 5 (this includes the Extended Day Program). We are looking forward to welcoming all students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 back to school on Wednesday.

When students return to school, staff will spend some time reviewing and practicing all of the COVID safety protocols we have followed over the past four months. These protocols are listed below, please review them with your child(ren) prior to Wednesday.

Arrival and Dismissal:

Only students and staff are allowed on school property. Parents and visitors are not allowed on school grounds. Kindergarten parents wearing masks may line up to drop their child(ren) off at the Kindergarten gates at 8:20 AM, and to pick them up at 2:55 PM. Grade 1 - 6 students will walk to the back of the school to stand in their socially-distanced class lines. After the 8:30 AM bell, students must line up at the front door with their parents to be admitted through the office.

Students riding the bus will be given assigned seats, with siblings sharing a seat. Students must remain in their assigned seats.

All students in Kindergarten - Grade 6 are required to wear cloth masks at school. (Medical masks are also acceptable, but not required).  Please send two masks if you are able, because masks worn outside for recess often become damp and uncomfortable. We recommend that your child(ren) practice wearing their masks over the next couple of days, to help them get used to wearing masks again for longer periods of time.

Hand Sanitizing

All students will continue to sanitize their hands when entering the school building, and again when entering their classrooms. Students will also wash hands before eating.

Recess and Nutrition Breaks

We will continue to cohort students into assigned zones during the recess. Students must stay in their zones which have been marked by paint and large traffic cones. Students are expected to keep their masks on and maintain physical distancing during recess.

It is important for your child to be dressed for the weather as we will be outside for recess even in cold weather (the cutoff for staying inside is -25 Degrees).

Students will eat lunch in their homeroom classes, and all students are asked to bring all garbage and wrappers home with them.

Water Bottles

Please make sure that your child has a full water bottle. We know that hydration is a key component to good health and learning.  We have been directed by Ottawa Public health to turn off our water fountains. The only option available will be a water bottle filling station and classes will go to refill water bottles on a staggered schedule.

Line Ups

Line-ups are a part of life at school, especially with our COVID protocols.Students line-up to enter and exit the building, for recess, and when moving through the school. Students must maintain a 1 meter distance when standing and moving in lines.

RBPS Food Drive / Fundraiser for Pavilion Food Bank

We are pleased to announce that the RBPS Food Drive raised over $1,600 in cash and over 100 lbs of food for the Pavillion Food Bank. This is a new record for Robert Bateman, and is especially impressive given the challenges that we are all facing with COVID 19. Thank you to all our parents and students for your generosity.
