Upcoming RBPS Showcase

On Wednesday, May 3 (time TBA), all RBPS families are invited to the school for the grand opening of the recently completed 2nd Floor Art Installation. Every student from Kindergarten to Grade 6 worked on this project, and they will lead their families on a tour of the space. In addition, every class will have additional art to display as part of this showcase. Also, the Grade 6 Legacy project for 2023 will be unveiled in the library at this time. Please mark this date on your calendars: we hope that many families will be able to join us for this event.

Grade 6 Legacy Project 2023: Popcorn Fundraiser on Thursday, April 6

The Grade 6 Legacy Project is a tradition which goes back many years here at RBPS, where the students in Grade 6 select a gift to leave behind when they depart in June. Past legacy gifts have included sports equipment, a mural, and other items that will last for many years after ‘the gifters’ have left. This year, the Grade 6 students have decided on something special (and secret) for the library: we look forward to inviting all the parents for the ‘unveiling’ of this legacy gift on May 3.

As part of the fundraising for this legacy project, the Grade 6 Legacy Fundraising Committee will be selling 70g bags of Papa Jack’s Popcon during the 2nd nutrition break on Thursday, April 6. These bags will be sealed, so students can bring them home unopened (and students who are observing Ramadan can enjoy them after sundown). The cost is $2 per bag. Available flavours are: Butter; White Cheese; Salt and Vinegar; Kaboom, Dill Pickle.

Families have the option of ordering online through  SchoolCash Online from Monday - Wednesday this week., or sending their child(ren) with cash on Thursday: the Grade 6 Legacy Committee thanks you for your support.

EQAO Assessment at RBPS

The Provincial EQAO assessment of Math and Literacy will be held during the week of May 29 - June 1 at RBPS. Further details will be sent home to parents / caregivers of Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, parents and guardians are invited to Register for a free live webinar to learn about EQAO assessment results, and Ontario’s large scale assessment program at the elementary level.  EQAO will review highlights from the 2021-22 assessment results and how Grade 3 and Grade 6 assessments have been modernized.  Sessions are approximately 45 minutes, followed by a live Q&A with EQAO staff.

Staff Profiles

(In every Banner, we profile a different staff member..)

Staff Name: Leanne ShackletonLS

Role: Learning Support Teacher

Time at Robert Bateman: 4 Years

Background: I'm born and raised in Ottawa and come from a family of teachers. I've wanted to be a teacher since as long as I can remember. I have two children- 2 and 5 years old who keep me very busy.

Interesting Fact #1: During my University years, I would spend my summers living in a tent deep in the forests of Northern Ontario, Alberta and BC planting trees 6 days a week. It was hard work and the best experience!

Interesting Fact #2: I went to the same highschool as Mme Irus and Mrs. Partosa.
