Principal's Message

Robert Bateman PS is a large school in the community of Hunt Club Park. Opened in 1990, it is named after the Canadian artist, Robert Bateman, who continues to take an active interest in the life of the school. Awards are presented in his name at the grade six graduation ceremonies, and we are honoured that he makes a point to visit when he is in the Ottawa area.
Robert Bateman PS is a dual-track school with a capacity of approximately 600 students. We offer programs in English and Early French Immersion and have a Primary Special Needs (PSN) System class, as well as English as a Second Language and Special Education support. In addition, we have an Extended Day Care program for before and after school. Our priorities include:
  • Safe and Caring School Climate
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Parent Engagement
  • Technology
Our enrolment this school year is 390, with about one half enrolled in Early French Immersion. When students leave grade 6 at Robert Bateman PS, they go to Roberta Bondar PS for programs in Grade 7 and 8, for either the Early French Immersion or the Regular English programs. For Grades 9-12 most of our students attend Hillcrest or Canterbury High Schools.
Our students come from many different cultures and encompass a broad demographic spectrum. This provides a dynamic learning environment in which students learn the importance of respect for and tolerance of diversity.
